The invention is based on an electrically insulating material having a matrix of at least one polymer in which at least one insulating mineral, formed in the form of platelets, is included. It is intended to obtain an insulating material which is suitable for the production of insulations which are free of partial discharges even at high voltages and at comparatively high operating temperatures. This is achieved by providing a temperature-resistant thermoplastic as the polymer and by including, as the insulating material, mica microplatelets having a particle size of less than 20 µm. It is further intended to provide a method for producing an electrically insulated conductor in which the insulating material is employed.
