ABSTRACT The heating element has a heating conductor constructed as a metal tube 1 to which the plastic melt is fed through an inlet opening 3. The end of the metal tube facing away from the inlet opening is designed as a point and has flow-through openings 4. In the area of the point the metal tube is welded to an outer jacket 8 made of a material with a low specific electrical resis- tance. Outside the weld joint an insulating layer 9, which has a thickness in the range of 0.1 to 0.5 mm and which can be made of a ceramic substance, is provided between the metal tube and the outer jacket 8. The electrical energy fed to the metal tube 1 is selected in such a way that the plastic melt is not thermally over- loaded in the area of the point of the metal tube.
