The invention is directed to an electrically powered dental cleansing apparatus (1) in which a cleansing implement (19) is coupled to a drive sleeve (11) and adapted to be rotated about a longitudinal axis (4). According to the invention, the coupling is effected by means of a resilient element, in particular a spring (21) which includes a slip coupling (27) and/or a buffer zone (28). Under normal conditions, the slip coupling (27) pro- vides a non-rotative connection between the drive sleeve (11) and the cleansing implement (19). However, in the event of the cleansing implement (19) seizing in an interproximal space, for example, the slip coupling (27) will slip, thus avoiding poten- tial damage. The buffer zone (28) acts to prevent displacement of the cleansing implement (19)--although intended by the user-- in cases where, for example, the cleansing implement is posi- tioned against a tooth surface rather than against an interprox- imal space.

La zone tampon (28) permet à l'instrument de nettoyage (19) de ne pas être déplacé, même si l'utilisateur le désire, lorsque l'instrument de nettoyage (19) se trouve par exemple sur une surface dentaire et qu'il n'est pas positionné dans un espace interdentaire.
