An electro-optical phase modulator, in particular for use in a fibre-optical gyroscope (FOG), is characterised, as long as the time it takes for the light to make one revolution is made to match the working cycle, in that the same pulse response is ensured in both directions of rotation of the light. For that purpose, the modulation electrodes (13, 14...) are arranged in relation to a common counter-electrode (12) in such a way that the propagation in space and time of the potentials on the modulation electrodes and of the electric fields between the electrodes generates a pulse response which is always symmetrically distributed.

L'invention concerne un modulateur de phase électro-optique, servant notamment dans un gyroscope à fibres optiques. Ce modulateur de phase est caractérisé en ce que, tant que le temps nécessaire à la lumière pour effectuer une rotation coïncide avec le cycle de travail, la même réponse impulsionnelle est assurée dans les deux sens de trajet de la lumière. A cet effet, les électrodes de modulation (13, 14...) sont montées par rapport à une contre-électrode commune (12) de sorte que la propagation dans le temps et dans l'espace des potentiels au niveau des électrodes de modulation et du champ électrique entre les électrodes, produise une réponse impulsionnelle répartie de façon constamment symétrique.
