ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electro-thermosensitive recording material capable of developing a colour is disclosed. The recording material comprises a support having an electrically conductive surface and a conductive recording layer formed on the surface of the support. The recording layer contains a film-forming chlorine-containing polymer. Dispersed in the polymer is an acid-sensitive leuco dye and at least one zinc compound; the zinc compound is selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide optionally doped with a different metal, zinc hydroxide, zinc sulfide, zinc carbonate, zinc acrylate and zinc stear- ate. Such a recording material does not develop a colour upon application of impact, rubbing or pressure but only when an electric current is passed through. Furthermore, the recording layer may be thin but have a high mechanical strength.
