ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides an electrocatalyst comprising platinum, palladium and mixtures thereof and bismuth. The bismuth content is preferably between 0.5 and 70% by weight, based on the catalyst. Advanta- geously, the bismuth can be partially replaced by lead. The electrocatalyst is useful in anodes for fuel cells and for determining the concentration of sugars.
