ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electrocautery instrument which is provided with a non- removable enclosed electrical switching mechanism. The entire switch assembly may be sealed from human contact by an insu- lating medium. The electrocautery instrument comprises at least two conductive members operable to engage the tissue there- between with a handle means for positioning the members. The insulating medium insulates the handle and a major portion of the conductive members, in addition to the switch assembly, thereby insulating the operator while exposing at least the tissue engaging portion of the conductive members for engaging the tissue to be electrocauterized.
