ABSTRACT The invention provides an electrochemical cell and an anode structure for an electrochemical cell. The anode structure comprises a substantially non-electronically conductive micromolecular sieve carrier wherein electro- chemically active anode material in the form of an electronically conductive electropositive substance is sorbed and held in dispersed form, and a reservoir or source of the electropositive substance in contact with the carrier. The electropositive substance is liquid at the operating temperature of the cell.
