ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electrochemical cell for carrying out electrochemical processes - for example the regeneration of chromic acid or the electrochemical treatment of methanesulphonic acid - possessing several plate-shaped bipolar electrodes which are held spaced apart from each other by frames - thereby forming an electrolyte chamber between each pair of adjacent electrodes - and the electrolyte chambers are sealed off in a liquid-tight manner in their lateral and lower regions, and adjacent bipolar electrodes are electrically insulated from each other; the electrodes are held firmly against the frames by means of pressurizable, tubular sealing elements, which are positionally fixed in U-shaped grooves in the frames; the cell is not sealed off at the surface of the electrolyte, but depending on the application a cover may be provided. In order to remove the electrodes, the gripping force is released by reducing the pressure inside the sealing elements.
