An electrochemical display device capable of irreversibly switching from a first indicating state to a second indicating state comprises a substrate (12) having an electrically insulating surface (16), and a first electrode (30) located on at least a part of said surface (16) of said substrate (12), wherein said substrate (12), at least within said part of its surface (16) is light-transmissive, the transmissivity of the combination of said substrate (12) and said first electrode (30) being less than that of said part of said substrate (12). Furthermore, the electrochemical display device comprises a second electrode (32), and an electrolytic liquid (28) arranged between and in electrical contact with said first and second electrodes (30,32), wherein, upon application of an electrical voltage to said first and second electrodes (30,32), material of said first electrode (30) dissolves into said electrolytic liquid (28) exposing at least partially said substrate (12) thereby switching from the first indicating state to the second indicating state.
L'invention concerne un dispositif d'affichage électrolytique permettant de basculer de manière irréversible d'un premier état indicateur à un second état indicateur. Ce dispositif d'affichage comprend un substrat (12) présentant une surface (16) d'isolation électrique, et une première électrode (30) disposée sur au moins une partie de ladite surface (16) dudit substrat (12). Ledit substrat (12), est optiquement transparent au moins dans ladite partie de sa surface (16) recouverte par l'électrode, la transmissivité de la combinaison dudit substrat (12) et de ladite première électrode (30) étant inférieure à celle de ladite partie dudit substrat (12). Ce dispositif d'affichage électrolytique comprend en outre une seconde électrode (32), et un liquide électrolytique (28) placés entre lesdites première et seconde électrodes (30,32), et entrant en contact avec ces dernières, et l'application d'une tension électrique auxdites première et seconde électrodes (30,32) provoque la dissolution du matériau de ladite première électrode (30) dans ledit liquide électrolytique (28), exposant au moins partiellement ledit substrat (12), et basculant ainsi du premier état indicateur au second état indicateur.
