An electrochemical gas sensor (10) including a first planar substrate (18) having at least one planar electrode (14) formed thereon, thereby forming a first electrode assembly, and a housing (12) defining a reservoir (20) which, in use, contains liquid electrolyte for contacting the electrode(s), the housing having a first sealing face (36) to which the first electrode assembly is sealed, the sealing face comprising conducting portions (40, 42, 44, 46, 48) electrically isolated one from another, wherein a portion of at least one electrode (14) is in contact with a respective conducting portion (40, 42, 44, 46, 48) so as to provide a means of external electrical connection to the electrode(s), and wherein the conductive portions (40, 42, 44, 46, 48) and non-conductive portions (50) of the housing (12b) are co-moulded. This sensor has a relatively small number of component parts and is relatively cheap and easy to manufacture. It also provides a cheap and reliable way of forming external electrical connections to the electrodes.

Selon l'invention, un capteur de gaz électrochimique (10) comprend un premier substrat planaire (18) sur lequel est formée au moins une électrode planaire (14), et ce de manière à former un premier ensemble d'électrodes, et un boîtier (12) définissant un réservoir (20) qui, pendant l'utilisation, contient de l'électrolyte liquide qui met en contact le ou les électrode(s), ledit boîtier possédant une première face d'étanchéité (36) à laquelle est scellée le premier ensemble d'électrodes. La face d'étanchéité comprend des parties conductrices (40, 42, 44, 46, 48) électriquement isolées entre elles, une partie d'au moins une électrode (14) étant en contact avec une partie conductrice correspondante (40, 42, 44, 46, 48) de manière à former un système de connexion électrique externe avec le ou les électrode(s). Les parties conductrices (40, 42, 44, 46, 48) et non conductrices (50) du boîtier (12b) sont moulées ensemble. Le capteur possède un nombre relativement réduit de composants et est relativement peu coûteux et facile à fabriquer. On peut ainsi former aisément et à peu de frais des connexions électriques externes menant vers les électrode(s).
