The invention relates to an electrochemical half-cell (1) comprising at least one electrode chamber (3, 15) for holding an electrolyte (100), a gas chamber (2) and at least one gas-diffusion electrode (14) separating the gas chamber (2) and the electrode chamber (3, 15) in the form of an anode or a cathode. The gas chamber (2) is divided into two or a plurality of superimposed gas pockets (2a, 2b) in which gas is fed or removed via separate openings (7) and (12a, 12b, 12c, 12d), and the pressure on the electrolyte side of the electrode (14) is compensated for by an opening of each gas pocket (2a, 2b) to the electrolyte.
