An electrochemical machining technique involves moving a cathode (2) towards an anodic workpiece (1). A current is passed through an electrolyte which flows between the cathode (2) and workpiece (1) so as to cause material to be removed electrolytically from the workpiece (1). A vibratory movement is imposed on the cathode (2) and the current passed between the cathode (2) and workpiece (1) is also varied. The vibratory movement may consist of a main sinusoidal oscillation and a secondary ultrasonic vibration, and the current variation is synchronised with the main vibration so that current pulses, and ultrasonic vibration pulses, coincide, with a predetermined small phase shift, with peaks of the main vibration corresponding to the smallest gap between the cathode (2) and workpiece (1).

Une technique d'usinage électrochimique consiste à déplacer une cathode (2) vers une pièce à usiner d'anode (1). On fait circuler un courant à travers un électrolyte qui s'écoule entre la cathode (2) et la pièce à usiner (1) de manière à éliminer la matière de la pièce à usiner (1) de façon électrolytique. Un mouvement vibratoire est appliqué sur la cathode (2) et le courant circulant entre la cathode (2) et la pièce à usiner (1) varie également. Le mouvement vibratoire peut se composer d'une oscillation sinusoïdale principale et d'une vibration ultrasonore secondaire, et la variation de courant est synchronisée avec la vibration principale de telle manière que les impulsions de courant et les impulsions de vibrations ultrasonores coïncident avec un petit déphasage prédéterminé, avec des pics de la vibration principale correspondants au plus petit espace entre la cathode (2) et la pièce à usiner (1).
