An electrode that can be suitably used in apparatuses involving current application to the living body, such as iontophoresis apparatus. There is provided an electrode comprising a conductive terminal member of nonmetallic material and, secured thereto, a conductive sheet of nonmetallic material, wherein the conductive sheet has a resistivity lower than that of the terminal member. In an especially preferred embodiment, the conductive sheet is constituted of a carbon fiber or carbon fiber paper, or constituted of a carbon fiber or carbon fiber paper and, infiltrated therein, a polymer elastomer. The terminal member can be composed of a polymer matrix and, dispersed therein, a nonmetallic conductive filler.
L~invention concerne une électrode que l~on peut utiliser judicieusement dans les appareils faisant intervenir une application de courant au corps humain, comme un appareil de iontophorèse. Elle porte sur une électrode comprenant un élément de borne conductrice de matériau non métallique et, fixée à celle-ci, une feuille conductrice de matériau non métallique, où la feuille conductrice présente une résistivité inférieure à celle de l~élément de borne. Dans un mode de réalisation particulièrement préféré, la feuille conductrice est constituée d~une fibre de carbone ou d~un papier de fibre de carbone, ou bien d~une fibre de carbone ou d~un papier de fibre de carbone et, infiltré dans celle-ci ou celui-ci, un élastomère polymère. L~élément de borne peut se composer d~une matrice polymère et, dispersé dans celle-ci, une matière de remplissage conductrice non métallique.
