ABSTRACT An electrode arrangement for an oil or gas burner comprises a rod electrode (4). This is carried by a holder (5) held in a supporting plate (2) which is fixed with respect to the housing. The electrode (4) is of ceramic material such as silicon carbide. The holder (5) can be turned with respect to the supporting plate (2) and locked thereto. For this purpose, the holder (5) may have a spherical section (11) resiliently pressed by retaining means (13) into a hole (12) in the supporting plate (2) of smaller diameter than the spherical section.
