A B S T R A C T This invention relates to an electrode steam boiler and to a method of operating the boiler. The boiler includes a shell, three electrodes in the shell, two water introduction nozzles in the shell and vertically spaced from each other with the uppermost nozzle being positioned to introduce water into the shell space between the electrodes and a steam pressure switch. The method of operating the boiler includes the steps of introducing water into the shell through the uppermost nozzle while the boiler is at or below its normal preset operating steam pressure and by means of the pressure switch switching the water introduction from the upper nozzle to the lower nozzle which is located in relatively colder water when the boiler steam pressure rises above the preset pressure.
