2106666 9217775 PCTABS00016 An electro-analytical sensing instrument such as a pH meter has a sensing electrode which is placed in an electrolyte and voltages are read out in order to measure the properties of the electrolyte such as pH. The present invention enables an electrode assembly to be calibrated at one site and used at other sites and with other instruments without the need for re-calibration. This is achieved by providing a calibration unit including a memory which is kept as part of the electrode assembly for use at other sites. Various electrode assemblies to which the invention can be applied are described.
