ABSTRACT A plating applicator for electroplating a relatively soft metal onto a substrate which includes a handle, a backing composed of a metal such as steel which is harder than the relatively soft metal to be plated, the backing being secured to the handle, the backing having a plurality of apertures therethrough, and an anode of the relatively soft metal connected to the backing by integral protuberances which extend through the apertures and which have upset portions above the protuberances which hold the anode rigidly to the backing. The invention is also concerned with a method of manufacturing the plating applicator by means of which the relatively soft anode can be rapidly and effectively locked to the harder backing member.
