ABSTRACT A particle suitable for use as an electrode material comprising a generally spherical substrate, preferably graphite, having a diameter of from 0.3 mm to 2.5 cm. said substrate is provided with a coating of an admixture of a hydrophobic binder of, preferably, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and an electrochemically active, electrically conductive catalyst, e.g. carbon black, having a thickness of from 0.025 to 0.15, said coated particle is produced by a novel method and is advantageously employed as an electrode comprising a plurality of packed particles in an electrode cell, said coated particle is advantageously employed as a catalyst for the reduction of oxygen.
