ABSTRACT A cathode base plate for use in electrolytic refining in which a metal is electrodeposited on said base plate and subsequently peeled therefrom. The base plate has an edge portion of reduced thickness compared with at least the adjacent regions of said plate, said portion having a plurality of openings therethrough. An insulating material is mounted on and embraces said edge portion with the outer surfaces of the insulating material essentially flush with the adjacent surface regions of said plate with said insulating material extending through said openings to lock said insulating material to said base plate. The foregoing structure is considerably more effective in permitting engagement of the metal deposited on the base plate with the stripping wedges of an automatic stripper and is much less susceptible to damage than many prior art arrangements.
