An electrodeionization apparatus and method for purifying a fluid. A fluid, such as water, can be purified by removing weakly ionizable species from the fluid. Weakly ionizable species may be dissociated at different pH levels to facilitate removal from the fluid in an electrodeionization device. The electrodeionization apparatus comprising: a first layer of ion exhange material comprising cation exchange material and/or anion exchange material; and a second layer of ion exchange material comprsing anion exchange material in fluid communication with the first layer; wherein at least one of the layers includes a dopant and/or the apparatus includes a third layer comprising anion and/or cation exchange material in fluid communication with the second layer.
L'invention porte sur un appareil et sur un procédé d'électrodéionisation visant à purifier un fluide. Il est possible de purifier un fluide tel que l'eau en éliminant de ce fluide les espèces faiblement ionisables. Ces espèces faiblement ionisables peuvent être dissociées à différents taux de pH de façon à faciliter l'élimination dans un dispositif d'électrodéionisation.
