A pigment grind composition contains pigment, water dispersible acrylic polymer and a reactive diluent. The reactive diluent has a number average molecular weight of between about 200 and about 2500 and is selected from polyalkylene glycol mono esters formed by the reaction of polyalkylene glycol with a monocarboxylic acid having between eight and eighteen carbon atoms, glycol ether formals or mixtures of these. The pigment grind composition has a volatile organic content of less than two pounds per gallon. Also disclosed is a method of electrocoating an electroconductive substrate utilizing an aqueous electrocoating composition containing an electrodepositable water dispersible film forming polymer and the novel pigment grind composition. The method is particularly suitable for anodic electrodeposition.
Une composition de pigment broyé comprend un pigment, un polymère acrylique dispersable dans l'eau et un diluant réactif. Le diluant réactif a un poids moléculaire moyen variant entre environ 200 et environ 2 500 et est choisi parmi des monoesters de polyalkylèneglycol formés par la réaction entre le polyalkylèneglycol et un acide monocarboxylique ayant entre huit et dix-huit atomes de carbone, des formals d'éther glycolique ou des mélanges de ces derniers. La composition de pigment broyé a une teneur en matière organique volatile de moins de deux livres par gallon. Une méthode est également dévoilée pour le revêtement par électrolyse d'un substrat électroconducteur, consistant à utiliser une composition aqueuse de revêtement par électrolyse contenant un polymère formant une pellicule dispersable dans l'eau applicable par électrodéposition et la composition nouvelle de pigment broyé. La méthode convient particulièrement à l'électrodéposition d'anodes.
