An electroluminescent device comprising two electrodes (3, 5) whereby at least one organic electroluminescent semiconducting layer (4) is arranged therebetween, in addition to a substrate (2) supporting said device, and an electric current source (1) which is electroconductively linked to said electrodes. The inventive device is characterized in that the substrate (2) is made of a metal or metal alloy.
