Electroluminescent devices, characterized in that they contain oligomers of substituted p-divinylbenzenes of the general formula (I) (see above formula) in which R1 and R2 are identical or different and represent linear or branched alkyl or alkoxy containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms, preferably 1 to 8 carbon atoms, in the case of branching containing 3 to 12, preferably 3 to 8 carbon atoms, or cyclohexyl containing 4 to 10, preferably 5 or 6 carbon atoms, or R1 or R2 is hydrogen and the corresponding radical R2 or R1 has the above identified meening, R3 and R4 are identical or different and stand for hydrogen, C1-C6-alkyl (preferably methyl or ethyl), CN or halogen (preferably fluorine, chlorine or bromine), R5, R6, R7 and R8 are identical or different and may be any desired radicals, inter alia structural elements for coupling the oligomers to other oligomers/polymers, n is an integer from 2 to 20, preferably 2 to 15 and particularly preferably 2 to 10.
