ELECTROLUMINESCENT DISPLAY DEVICES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A thin-film electroluminescent display device com- prises a glass substrate, a transparent conductor, a phosphor layer between two insulating layers, an opaque back conductor, and a black layer of a material that interferes with the incoming light, thus eliminating the problem of reflection when the display is viewed under conditions of high ambient illumination, e.g. direct sunlight.
