An electrolysis cell of the S?derberg type for the production of aluminium, comprising a cathode (1)?, which contains an electrolysis bath, an anode casing construction, which is arranged in stationary position above the cathode, and which contains a carbon anode (1), which reaches down, in part, into the electrolysis bath, arrangements for the supply and removal of direct current from the cell and the means for adding additives, for example aluminium oxide, to the electrolysis bath in the cell. The anode (1) is divided into two parts (6, 7), whereby the anode casing construction consists of two casing parts (8, 9), which are parallel and close to one another; a removable lid or superstructure (11) is arranged between the casing parts.
