The present invention provides electrolyte that can suppress reduction of battery efficiencies and capacities with increased cycles of charge/discharge of the battery, a method for producing the same, and a redox flow battery using the same electrolyte. The redox flow battery uses the electrolyte having a NH4 content of not more than 20ppm and a relation of Si concentration (ppm) X electrolyte quantity (m3)/electrode area (m2) of less than 5ppm .cndot. m3/m2. By limiting a quantity of contaminants in the electrolyte, a clogging of carbon electrodes to cause reduction of the battery performances with increased charge/discharge operations can be suppressed.

L'invention concerne un électrolyte qui permet d'éviter la perte d'efficacité dans une pile et la perte de capacité liée à la répétition du cycle de charge/décharge d'une pile. L'invention concerne aussi un procédé relatif à l'élaboration de l'électrolyte, et par ailleurs une pile redox utilisant cet électrolyte. L'électrolyte a une teneur en NH4 inférieure ou égale à 20 ppm, et une quantité, formulée en tant que concentration de Si (ppm) x volume d'électrolyte (m<3>), inférieure à 5 ppm m<3>/m<2>. La limitation du taux d'impuretés permet d'éviter la perte d'efficacité dans le fonctionnement d'une pile, en liaison avec l'opération de charge d'une électrode de carbone dans cette pile, car une telle opération apporte des impuretés propres au cycle de charge/décharge.
