A process for rebalancing the electrolyte system in a regenerative fuel cell using a sulfide/polysulfide reaction in one half of the cell and a bromine/bromide reaction in the other half of the cell comprises passing the electrolyte containing sulfide/polysulfide or bromine/bromide through the +ve chamber of an auxiliary cell and passing an electrolyte containing water and being free from polysulfide or bromine through the -ve chamber of the auxiliary cell, the auxiliary cell operating so as to oxidise sulfide ions to sulfur or bromide ions to bromine in the +ve chamber and to reduce water to hydrogen and hydroxide ions in the -ve chamber.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de rééquilibrer le système d'électrolytes dans une pile à combustible à récupération produisant une réaction sulfure/polysulfure dans une moitié de la pile et une réaction brome/bromure dans l'autre moitié de la pile. Ce procédé consiste à faire passer l'électrolyte contenant le sulfure/polysulfure ou le brome/bromure à travers le compartiment positif d'une pile auxiliaire et à faire passer un électrolyte contenant de l'eau, exempt de polysulfure ou de bromure, à travers le compartiment négatif de cette pile auxiliaire. La pile auxiliaire provoque une oxydation transformant les ions sulfure en soufre ou les ions bromure en brome dans la chambre positive, ainsi qu'une réduction de l'eau produisant des ions hydrogène et hydroxyde dans le compartiment négatif.
