The present invention relates to a molten electrolyte electrolysis apparatus and process and their embodiments which are adapted for the reduction of metallic minerals. The device according to the present invention can be adapted for the production of the principle industrial metals such as zinc, magnesium, aluminium, titanium, etc. An electrolytic cell comprising electrolyte, at least one anode and at least one cathode, characterized in that electrolyte is caused to circulate between the cathode(s) and anode(s) by imposition of a magnetic field typically perpendicular to the passage of current in the electrolyte and associated with one or several deflectors which separate the electrolyte flow into two flow paths, the first flow path passing the anode and the second flow path passing the cathode. According to the present invention, the cells can be adapted for the treatment of ores with the separation of different metals inside.

Cette invention se rapporte à un appareil et un procédé d'électrolyse à électrolyte fondu, ainsi qu'à leurs modes de réalisation, qui servent à la réduction des minéraux métalliques. Le dispositif faisant l'objet de cette invention peut être adapté à la production des principaux métaux industriels, tels que le zinc, le magnésium, l'aluminium, le titane, etc. A cet effet, une cellule d'électrolyse comprenant un électrolyte, au moins une anode et au moins une cathode est conçue pour que l'électrolyte soit amené à circuler entre la cathode et l'anode ou entre les cathodes et les anodes, par application d'un champ magnétique généralement perpendiculaire au passage du courant dans l'électrolyte et associé à un ou plusieurs déflecteurs qui divisent l'écoulement de l'électrolyte en deux flux: le premier flux passant par l'anode et le second flux passant par la cathode. Selon cette invention, de telles cellules peuvent être conçues pour le traitement des minerais avec séparation des différents métaux contenus.
