ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a process used for the regeneration of neutral to alkaline cleaning and degreasing baths in an electrolysis cell that is powered by direct current. That soaps and emulsified impurities of the baths are coagulated and floated in the cell having at least one pair of inert electrodes and a dissolvable metal structure inserted between the electrodes in the neutral to alkaline range at a current of 0.1 to 4 Ah/dm3. The metal structure dissolves into a hydroxyl-containing metal complex which combines with the impurities. The combined metal complex and impurities float upwardly as aggregates and are separated. A device used to carry out this process is also described.
