According to the invention, during a continuous slab casting operation wherein the metal melt is introduced into an ingot mould (1) by an immersed nozzle (4) having lateral discharge louvers (5,5') opening out opposite small walls (3,3'), agitation occurs involves moveable magnetic fields acting in pairs, at least in the secondary cooling area of the casting installation, sliding between themselves in a co-linear manner in opposite directions in order to force the establishment of a longitudinal median current in the liquid sink according to two antagonistic co-linear currents, producing an overall 4-leaf clover movement whereby the upper leaves (L1,L4) thereof extend in an ingot mould as far as the vicinity of the discharge jets (7,7') of the discharge louvers of the nozzle in order to dampen or accelerate them as required. The invention results in overall agitation of the metal along the entire metallurgical height, thereby ensuring thermal and chemical homogeneity between the top and bottom of the liquid sink without having to forego the beneficial effects of, respectively, agitation in ingot moulds and secondary cooling and without disrupting, in fact by reinforcing, the manner of local discharge in the ingot mould.
Au cours d'une opération de coulée continue de brames, dans laquelle le métal en fusion est introduit en lingotière (1) par une busette immergée (4) à ouïes de sorties latérales (5, 5') s'ouvrant en regard des petites parois (3, 3'), le brassage selon 1'invention met en .oelig.uvre des champs magnétiques mobiles qui agissent par paire au moins dans la zone du refroidissement secondaire de l~installation de coulée en glissant colinéairement entre eux dans des sens opposés de manière à forcer 1'établissement d'un courant longitudinal médian dans le puits liquide selon deux courants colinéaires antagonistes, lesquels produisent un mouvement d'ensemble en figure de "trèfle à quatre lobes" dont les lobes supérieurs (Ll, L4) s~étendent en lingotière jusqu'au voisinage des jets de sortie 7,7' des ouïes de la busette, pour les freiner ou les accélérer au besoin. L'invention procure un brassage d'ensemble du métal sur la hauteur métallurgique, assurant de ce fait une homogénéité tant thermique que chimique entre le haut et le bas du puits liquide sans pour autant se priver des effets bénéfiques propres aux brassages en lingotière et dans le refroidissement secondaire respectivement, et sans perturber, voire en raffermissant, le mode d~écoulement local dans la lingotière.
