A control rod (A) of a cluster of neutron absorbing elements (5) to be driven into a nuclear reactor core to a variable depth is controlled by a linear electromagnetic motor (B) which replaces all the transmission mechanisms likely to be damaged by the stresses and impacts. It is proposed to construct a portion of the control rod (A) used as a rotor made of aluminium or copper reinforced with a homogenous dispersion of thermallystable particles to maintain the mechanical characteristics of these metals at high temperatures without significantly reducing electric conductivity.
