Abstract An electromagnetic flow meter has two magnetic poles (6, 7) attachable to a measuring tube from the outside. Its core section (10, 11) is connected at the radially outer end without a gap to the adjoining magnetic system portion (14, 15). The separating gap (17, 18) is disposed beyond the magnetic path for the stray flux. Further, the separating gap (17, 18) extends over a larger area than does the cross-section of the core section (10, 11). In this way, induction in the separating gap drops and the structural size of the magnetic system can be reduced. Fig. 1.
