ABSTRACT An electromagnetic stirrer installed in a conti- nuous stelle casting plant at a distance from the casting path, whereby the stirrer is provided with a guide device on its side facing the casting path for guiding a flexible dummy bar. In this way the dummy bar, which on account of its degree of play in the casting guide may possibly swing into the stirrer, is kept away from direct access to the structurally relatively weak side of the stirrer which could result in damage. Furthermore the dummy bar is so guided as to avoid undesirable collision between the dummy bar head and guide rollers.
