A solenoid operated modulated valve has a hollow pressure-balanced spool with anenlarged land for valving. Opposite edges of the land are chamfered to seat against annular seats provided on opposite sides of the controlled flow outlet port. Grooves in the OD of the spool on opposite sides of the land control flow between the controlled flow port and a separate supply port and vent port.
