ELECTROMECHANICAL ACTUATOR APPLIED TO AN ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED SEWING MACHINE Abstract of the Disclosure The invention is an electromechanical actuator applied to an electronically controlled sewing machine. Such sewing machines have a needle bar gate capable of trans- verse oscillations about a vertical pin fixed in the sewing machine head. The actuator is formed by a frame of ferromagnetic material arranged to have opposing pairs of walls. A magnetic pole piece having the shape of a part of a circular ring is located within the frame and a coil is arranged to slide on the pole piece. The coil is connected to the needle bar gate so that movement of the coil controls the movements of the needle bar gate. As a result, the actuator has low inertia and is able to respond quickly and accurately.
