A closed-loop controlled system solenoid actuated EGR valve [10] includes an engine mount [18] for attachment to a vehicle engine [150], a valve housing [14] to which the engine mount [18] is attached, a motor housing [12] positioned above the valve housing [14], and a sensor housing [16]. The valve housing [14] includes a valve inlet [116] adapted to receive engine exhaust gas and a valve outlet [124] which communicates the engine exhaust gas from the valve inlet [116] to an engine intake system. The motor housing has a bobbin [40], an armature [30], and a valve stem [36] disposed in a bore [38] formed therein. The valve stem [36] is in communication with a plunger [146] extending from the sensor housing [16] to monitor the position of the valve stem [36] with respect to the valve seat [120]. A guide bearing [66] is positioned in the housing to guide the armature [30] while a valve stem bearing [106] is positioned in the valve housing [14] to contact and position the valve stem [36] with respect to the valve seat [120] while a valve opening [118] is being closed.
