ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electronic anti-two block device in which a multi-turn optical shaft encoder provides a digital indication of the number of revolutions the hook drum has rotated and thus an indication of the amount of wire rope payed off the drum, which digital indication is utilized to address a read only memory (ROM) programmed for the minimum boom angle permitted at each digital indication. The minimum boom angle is compared against the actual boom angle provided in digital format to the comparator by a single turn optical shaft angle encoder. The output of the comparator remains low until the actual boom angle is less than the output from the ROM. When the actual boom angle is less than permitted, the comparator output goes high actuating a relay driver to disable control movements intended to lower the boom and raise the hook block.
