Abstract A pager receiver is described in which an oscillator generates an oscillation signal which is frequency divided to provide first and second actuation signals having different frequencies. An audible annunciator gives an audible signal when supplied by the first actuation signal and an L.E.D. is switched on and off by counter-electromotive forces developed in an induc- tance element forming part of the audible annunciator in response to either the first actuation signal or the second actuation signal. Gate circuitry is connected to the frequency divider, audible annunciator and L.E.D. to supply the annunciator and the L.E.D. with one of the first and second actuation signals in response to an alert signal. A control signal supplied by an external switch is supplied to the frequency divider and is effec- tive in choosing the first or second actuation signal.
