An acousto-magnetic electronic article surveillance antenna (1) is provided that attaches directly to a vertical structure (2) with the electromagnetic field (9) projected across an opening (10), such as an exit or entrance to a building or other defined area. The vertical structure could be a doorframe or wall, constructed from a wide variety of materials, including metal, wood, glass, concrete or gypsum wallboard. The antenna geometry (14, 15) is elongated vertically to allow a corresponding decrease in width projected from the vertical structure, thereby reducing the apparent size of the antenna and providing a near-concealed appearance and protection from physical damage.
