A method and system (see Fig. 3) using a communication network (160) such as the Internet to allow registered users the flexibility to pay a bill by using traditional non-electronic payment methods after receiving an e-mail notification is disclosed. The e-mail notification contains at least summary information which is formatted in the form of a remittance which can be included with the non-electronic form of payment allowing a user to retain the ability to pay a bill non-electronically while still being electronically notified that the bill is due. Additionally, a registered user has the option to pay a bill electronically after receiving the e-mail by clicking on an appropriate web address embedded within the e-mail. The registered user will either be directed to a biller website or a Customer Service Provider (CSP) and/or a Business Service Provider (BSP) website and given the option to pay the bill electronically.

L'invention concerne un système et un procédé souples (fig. 3) utilisant un réseau de communication (160), tel qu'Internet, pour permettre à des usagers inscrits de payer une facture par des méthodes de paiement classiques non électroniques après réception d'un avis par courrier électronique. L'avis transmis par courrier électronique contient au moins une information sommaire présentée sous la forme d'une remise pouvant accompagner le formulaire de paiement non électronique, et offrant à un usager la possibilité de payer une facture par voie non électronique tout en continuant de recevoir par voie électronique un avis d'échéance de la facture. De plus, le choix est offert à un usager inscrit de payer une facture par voie électronique, après réception du courrier électronique, en cliquant sur une adresse Internet appropriée intégrée au courrier électronique. L'usager inscrit est alors orienté vers un site web de facturation ou vers un site web d'un prestataire de services à la clientèle (CSP) et/ou d'un prestataire de services commerciaux (BSP) où il pourra acquitter la facture par voie électronique.
