An electronic blood pressure monitor has a switch detecting whether a front cover is open or closed. When the front cover is opened by a subject, the switch detects that the cover is opened, and outputs a detection signal to a control portion. In control portion a CPU operates in response to the detection signal being received to cause a power supply switch LED to flash on and off/turn on. This indicates that of a variety of switches of a console, the type of manipulation switch that should first be operated is a power supply switch.
