Abstract of the Disclosure An electronic cash register having a keyboard having data input keys and a memory into which input data is stored by operating the data input keys. The input data of the memory is read out by a central processing unit and printed onto a sheet on a printing section. The cash register further including a flag memory for storing a flag and a time keeping circuit into which present time data is set, the above-mentioned flag indicating a time period from the termination of a printing operation at the printing section until a next registering operation is started after a receipt has been issued subsequent to the completion of a registering operation. When the flag of the flag memory does not indicate the above-mentioned time period i.e. a register- ing operation is being effected, an operation other than the registering operation, such as a present time display operation or an alarm operation, is inhibited. When the flag of the flag memory indicates the above- mentioned time period, a present time display operation or an alarm operation is permitted.
