An electronic circuit for Euclidean distance determination includes two floating gate transistors (M1, M2) connected in parallel. Voltages representing a reference point and its complement are applied to input lines (22, 24) and corresponding charges become stored on the transistors' floating gates (F1, F2). Voltages representing a data point and its complement are input to control gates (G1, G2). The transistors (M1, M2) produce a combined output current which is a quadratic or exponential function of the distance between the data and reference points according to whether the transistors are above or below threshold. The circuit (10) includes a diode-connected load device (M3) for deriving the square root of the output current, which is proportional to Euclidean distance when the transistors are operated above threshold. Refresh means (M44, M45) may be provided for resetting reference points. An array of circuits of the invention is employed for determination of distances between vector quantities.

Un circuit électronique, qui permet la détermination des distances euclidiennes, comprend deux transistors à grille flottante (M1, M2) connectés en parallèle. Des tensions représentant un point de référence et son complément sont appliquées à des lignes d'entrée (22, 24) et des charges correspondantes sont alors stockées dans les grilles flottantes (F1, F2) des transistors. Des tensions représentant un point de données et son complément sont introduites dans des grilles de commande (G1, G2). Les transistors (M1, M2) produisent un courant de sortie combiné qui constitue une fonctions quadratique ou exponentielle de la distance séparant les points de données et de références selon que ces transistors fonctionnent au-dessus ou au-dessous d'un seuil. Ce circuit (10) comporte un dispositif de charge (M3), connecté à une diode, qui dérive la racine carrée du courant de sortie, qui est proportionnelle à la distance euclidienne quand les transistors fonctionnent au-dessus du seuil. Des dispositifs de rafraîchissement (M44, M45) peuvent être prévus pour recaler les points de référence. Un réseau de circuits suivant l'invention permet de déterminer des distances séparant des quantités vectorielles.
