An electronic control module for use in controlling a vehicle comprises a first processor 10 adapted to calculate the fuelling requirements of the engine and spark advance, and also to control a plurality of diagnostic tests for testing engine operating paramenters. A second processor 12 triggers the spark and spark dwell timing together with the start of fuel injection. By such partitioning of tasks it is possible to provide a wide variety of facilities with a low cost electronic control module. The second processor 12 is adapted to operate the engine in a back-up mode on failure of the first processor 10 by use of look-up tables fox fuel pulse width and spark advance. The vehicle therefore remains operational even on failure of part of the electronic control module.
Cette invention concerne un module électronique de commande de véhicule qui comprend un premier processeur 10 conçu pour calculer les besoins d'alimentation du moteur et l'avance à l'allumage ainsi que pour réaliser une série de contrôles diagnostiques destinés à vérifier les paramètres de fonctionnement du moteur. Un second processeur 12 envoie les commandes d'allumage, de séquence d'allumage et de début d'injection de carburant. En distribuant ainsi les tâches, on peut assurer une grande variété de fonctions à même un module électronique de commande à faible coût. Le second processeur est adapté pour prendre la relève du premier processeur 10 en cas de panne de celui-ci; il procède par lecture d'une table de recherche où figurent les largeurs d'impulsion d'injection et l'avance à l'allumage. Le véhicule peut ainsi continuer à rouler malgré une panne d'une partie du module électronique de commande.
