An electronic device for use with an external device is composed of a main unit and a card unit which are separate from each other and detachably connected to each other, the card unit being insertable into the external device. The card unit can be electrically connected in the same lead pattern to the main unit even when the card unit has been turned upside-down. Even when the card unit has been inserted upside-down into the external device, the electronic device can be electrically connected to the external device, since the card unit may be connected upside-down to the main unit. The electronic device thus joined to the external device can be used conveniently.
