An electronic display unit for the display of price and/or product information, including a display, and a control circuit connected to the display. The display and control circuit can be disposed in a housing that can be attached to a display fixture or shelf, whereby on the front surface of the housing, on which surface the display is located, there can be at least one compartment for holding an information medium containing numbers, symbols and/or words. To protect the information medium, a transparent cover can be fastened to the housing, and the transparent cover can be moved between one position in which the transparent cover covers the compartment, and a second position in which the cover does not cover, or only partly covers, the compartment, to facilitate the insertion of the information medium into the compartment.
