The present invention relates to an electronic dose counter device for an inhaler that is capable of positively registering when a dose is delivered from a medicament container placed in the inhaler, and in particular inhalers that are manually pressed in order to deliver a dose. A general problem is how to avoid false registrations of doses and tolerance differences that may lead to such false registrations. According to the invention, this problem is solved in that the dose counter device comprises device trigger means provided in an electronic circuit on a distal end of a dose containing canister, that the electronic circuit further comprises an acoustic sensing means also provided on the distal end of the canister, and force sensing means adapted to activate the acoustic sensing means when a force is applied to the distal end of the canister and in that the acoustic sensing means registers a dose delivery when it picks up a sound. In this manner, the acoustic sensing means functions to only register delivered doses regardless of the mechanical design of the inhaler nor any tolerance differences.
