A metering system includes means for printing postage value. First means are coupled to the printing means for accounting for value printed by the printing means. Second means are coupled to the printing means for accounting for value printed by said printing means. Means determine which of the first and the second accounting means accounts for value printed by said printing means. The system may be arranged where the first accounting means is a smart card chip mounted internal to the metering system and the second accounting means is an external smart card. When the system is operable only one accounting system is rendered operable with priority given to the external smart card.

L'invention est un système de mesure comportant un dispositif d'impression d'affranchissements. Un premier dispositif est couplé au dispositif d'impression pour comptabiliser les valeurs imprimées par ce dernier. Un second dispositif est couplé au dispositif d'impression pour comptabiliser les valeurs imprimées par ce dernier. Un dispositif détermine lequel du premier et du second dispositifs de comptabilisation comptabilise les valeurs imprimées par le dispositif d'impression. Le système peut être construit de façon que le premier dispositif de comptabilisation soit une puce de carte à puce montée à l'intérieur du système de mesure, et que le second dispositif de comptabilisation soit une carte à puce externe. Quand le système est en fonction, un seul système de comptabilisation est opérant, la priorité étant accordée à la carte à puce externe.
