ABSTRACT The invention relates to an electronic power overload protection circuit adapted to limit the output power of a signal amplifier with the help of a sensing element part of a feedback circuit for said amplifier and which becomes conductive upon a predetermined maximum output power threshold being reached. According to the invention the threshold corresponds to a decreasing amplifier output current with a substantially linear slope up to a predeter- mined output voltage value and with a substantially linear lower slope above the value. A threshold selector is also provided so that the threshold may correspond to a constant amplifier output current. In this way the threshold can follow a constant amplifier output current limit up to a certain pre- determined amplifier output voltage and only thereafter will additional protection circuitry come into play to cause the limit to decrease as a function of the output voltage current with a constant linear slope.
